About
Can I Be Frank?
Recently, Betsyann was driving on the freeway in
Los Angeles when she was moved to laughter and tears
by a show on NPR about Frank Sinatra. At that moment
she decided she would turn her lifelong adoration
of Sinatra's unparalleled artistry into a very feminine
tribute. Can I Be Frank? was recorded in
Los Angeles with a number of Sinatra's sidemen and
has a unique approach to familiar and some very
unfamiliar territory.
"Very modern American female meets glamorous
1950s broad," is one of Betsyann's own description
of this shimmering recording.
Betsyann, who is a New York native, got her start
as a singer in front of the piano at the famous
Empire Diner. She immediately moved on to a real
stage at Reno Sweeney, and later s.n.a.f.u, where
she fronted a theatrical rock band for late cabaret
impresario and composer, Lewis Friedman. She has
performed her one woman shows, "But I Was
Cool" and "Deeper Than You Can Stand"
to SRO crowds across the country. |
